A Psalm a Day – Psalm 135

Psalm 135 ESV(UK)

Your Name, O Lord, Endures For Ever

Praise the Lord!
Praise the name of the Lord,
    give praise, O servants of the Lord,
who stand in the house of the Lord,
    in the courts of the house of our God!
Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good;
    sing to his name, for it is pleasant!
For the Lord has chosen Jacob for himself,
    Israel as his own possession.
For I know that the Lord is great,
    and that our Lord is above all gods.
Whatever the Lord pleases, he does,
    in heaven and on earth,
    in the seas and all deeps.
He it is who makes the clouds rise at the end of the earth,
    who makes lightnings for the rain
    and brings forth the wind from his storehouses.
He it was who struck down the firstborn of Egypt,
    both of man and of beast;
who in your midst, O Egypt,
    sent signs and wonders
    against Pharaoh and all his servants;
who struck down many nations
    and killed mighty kings,
Sihon, king of the Amorites,
    and Og, king of Bashan,
    and all the kingdoms of Canaan,

and gave their land as a heritage,
    a heritage to his people Israel.
Your name, O Lord, endures for ever,
    your renown, O Lord, throughout all ages.
For the Lord will vindicate his people
    and have compassion on his servants.
The idols of the nations are silver and gold,
    the work of human hands.
They have mouths, but do not speak;
    they have eyes, but do not see;
they have ears, but do not hear,
    nor is there any breath in their mouths.
Those who make them become like them,
    so do all who trust in them!
O house of Israel, bless the Lord!
    O house of Aaron, bless the Lord!
O house of Levi, bless the Lord!
    You who fear the Lord, bless the Lord!
Blessed be the Lord from Zion,
    he who dwells in Jerusalem!
Praise the Lord!

Prayer for loss of child (a prayer of comfort for someone who has lost their son or daughter)

Abba Father, We long to be with our dear beloved child, our hearts are heavy with deep sorrow and our breath is shallow. Please carry us, for we are overwhelmed by the pain of our grief. Words can not express the depth of our loss or the heartache we feel. We know you are with our dear beloved son (daughter), your heart is overjoyed by him. His breath is new life in Heaven. Please come and nurture our precious one. Thank you for the hope of eternal life that he has now received. Lord, you will keep him safe until we meet. We entrust him into your care now. Amen.

Baby Loss Awareness Week 2020

Held annually between 9 – 15 October, this is an opportunity for bereaved parents, family members and friends to commemorate the all-too-brief lives of their babies and pregnancies, knowing that thousands of other families around the world understand how they feel and will be doing the same.

The week also presents the chance for people to talk openly about the subject of and raise awareness of baby loss and pregnancy loss.

The week culminates with Baby Loss Awareness Day on Sunday 15 October and the poignant global Wave of Light at 7pm. During this wave of light, we remember the babies that have died during pregnancy, at, during or after birth by lighting a candle at 7pm and leaving it to burn for at least one hour.

You can also choose to share your candle with everyone on Facebook and/or Twitter and/or Instagram, if you so wish. However you choose to mark your loss, you will be uniting with others across the world in honour of those pregnancies and babies who lit up our lives for such a short time and we hope this event can bring some comfort.

From Saturday 10th OCtober the Church will be lit up each night in blue and pink in a show of support for all those affected by baby loss
