Holy Saturday – Holy Week Prayer

Lord God,
On the Sabbath,
Jesus rested.
He was in the grave.
He had finished his work.

To most people’s eyes,
It looked as if it were all over.
He was dead and buried.

But only as a seed dies when it is planted in the earth,
Not to decay, but to spring to new life.
Teach us to take refuge in you when we are afraid
Teach us that death is not our end Teach us to hope always in you
And in the resurrection, the making of all things new.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.

Prayer of Thankfulness
Dear God, We remember today, the pain and suffering of the cross, and all that Jesus was willing to endure, so we could be set free. He paid the price, such a great sacrifice, to offer us the gift of eternal life.

Help us never to take for granted this huge gift of love on our behalf. Help us to be reminded of the cost of it all. Forgive us for being too busy, or distracted by other things, for not fully recognizing what you freely given, what you have done for us.

Thank you, Lord, that by your wounds we are healed. Thank you that because of your huge sacrifice we can live free. Thank you that sin and death have been conquered and that your Power is everlasting.

Thank you that we can say with great hope, “It is finished…” For we know what’s still to come. And death has lost its sting. We praise you for you are making all things new. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Prayer for Easter Sunday
“God, thank You so much for sending Your son Jesus to die on the cross to take the punishment for my sins and to enable me to have new life in You. Please help me never forget what a sacrifice he made for me. Please help me to live a life worthy of the calling You have given me. I truly want to love and serve You, God.”

Prayer for Our Enemies
“God, sometimes it can feel like (this specific group of people) is an enemy, out to destroy the things I love and value. Please help me to see all people the way You see them, God. Please help these people come to know You and love You, and help my interactions to be loving as well. I want to live up to Your good example, God–even when it’s hard.”
