Town Centre Church News!

Sunday worship continues at 11am each Sunday morning at 346 Main Street – Bellshill Central Parish Church. Our church is Central to Christ, Central to Bellshill and Central to YOU! For 143 years we have shouted out the Good News of Jesus Christ and of His love for one and all. We offer a warm and generous welcome to all, on Sundays or throughout the week at any of our week day activities and groups. Our minister, Rev’d Kevin de Beer, loves being in our Faith Family and reaching outwards into the communities of Bellshill Town Centre, Mossend and Orbiston. As the Church of Scotland Parish for Central Bellshill, including the Town Centre, we want to you be part of what is a wonderful community of fellowship and faith. Please simply #comeasyouare!

This Sunday morning, 20th October at 11am our minister Rev’d Kevin preaches on ‘IT’S ALL GRACE’. The hymns include God of mercy, My chains are gone, tree of life and For everyone born.   Kevin’s Readings come from 2 Samuel 9 and Ephesians 2:1-10. The service will be live streamed via our website and YouTube channel for those wishing to take part live or later on catch up. If you would like a tape, CD or DVD of the service these can be made available by speaking to Drew Aitken.

As the church for the Town Centre, our outreach this Autumn includes a Big Sing and a Time to Remember Service.

The Big Sing (Hymns Old & New) takes place on Sunday 27th October at 6.30pm in the Church with organist Alan Mathew, Presenter Hugh Ainsley and the augmented Bellshill Central Choir. We are raising funds for Project Gambia: People Feeding People. We invite everyone to come along and be part of this evening of wonderful singing. Hymns include: old favourites – I will sing the wondrous story, O for a thousand tongues, And can it be, Who is on the Lord’s side, Guide me o thou great Jehovah and I to the hills will lift mine eyes; and more contemporary songs – Be still, Sing of the Lord’s goodness, See what a morning, The Lord’s my shepherd I’ll not want and In Christ Alone. About our Charity – Project Gambia: People Feeding People is a Scottish Charity which functions to support St. John’s School for the Deaf in Serrekunda, in the West African state of The Gambia. They now also support St. Patrick’s Lower Basic School and St. Joseph’s Nursery School in The Gambia. The Gambia is one of Africa’s poorest countries, ranking 173rd out of 188 countries in the U.N. Development Programme’s 2016 Statistics for Human Development.

The Time to Remember Service takes place on Sunday 3rd November at 6.30pm in the Church at 346 Main Street. Time to Remember Service is a new service for us here at Central. It aims to offer a quiet, contemplative space and environment for those who may be recently bereaved or needing time to pray for a particularly difficult situation. Please invite anyone you feel might benefit. An opportunity to come and remember your loved ones who have died, hear their names read out and to light a candle. Remember a time or difficult situation. If you would like to attend and wish a loved one’s name read out please email us on bellshillcentral@gmail.com or phone 01698 841176. You are simply welcome to come along and listen, if that will help you through a difficult time.

Our regular activities take place during the week:

  • Wednesday – Music Makers and Shakers classes all morning; 
  • Friday – Choir 7.15pm;
  • Sunday – 10.45 Choir, 11am Church Service, Sunday school, Crèche
  • Monday  – 7.30pm Concert in the church with David Fisher & the singing group OCTAVE.  All are very welcome, no tickets required.  Donation uplifted at the end.  Refreshments served afterwards. 
  • Tuesday – 6pm Rainbows

Heart and Sole is our Church Walking Group – we next meet for a walk on Sunday 3rd November at 1pm at the Church. You are welcome to come along from just after 12noon to share in a cup of tea. Bring a long a packed lunch too. Two legged and four legged friends are very welcome.

The Bellshill Community Food Bank have ran out of carrier bags which are needed to give out the various food parcels. If you can help out the Food-bank with carrier bags, you can leave any carrier bags at Bellshill Central Parish Church anytime we are open. There is a box in the entrance to the hall, or you can pass to Lawson or Jean Kyle at the Church. You help is greatly appreciated in this important outreach program.

Our church buildings are available to hire for the whole community. Whether you’re after a large hall, a small office or the church itself, we have spaces available to suit. Our Church Hall is equally suited to dance classes, coffee mornings or birthday parties. We have a spacious and functional kitchen with ample room to prepare food etc. We have a fully accessible disabled toilet with baby changing facilities. Our halls and church are fitted with WiFi. The church has large screens and sound system suitable for meetings and presentations. Our hall has portable audio visual equipment available upon request.

We had a wonderful service and Soup & Sandwich lunch last week. A massive thanks to the whole Central Church fundraising team and helpers for such a wonderfully enjoyable spread.
A huge and appreciative thank you to all took part in our August Sponsored walk/run, who have raised £1040.50 to date (not including Gift Aid). This helps us in our outreach to the community to be a beacon shining in Bellshill.

The Church of Scotland Guild – All welcome.

THE CHURCH GUILD has resumed weekly meetings – usually on Monday afternoons. This coming Monday at 1.30pm our ladies have organised a Bring and Buy. The following week, Monday 21st October 7.30pm, the have a Guest Night with Octave – a well-known singing group with former Bellshill organist David Fisher at the helm.

Harvest Sunday

This Sunday morning, 6th October, is our Harvest Service with Rev’d Kevin preaching on Jesus feeding the 5,000 with the loaves and the fishes.   The hymns include favourites; “For the Beauty of the Earth” and “Beauty for Brokenness”.  Newer hymns are “Now we sing a Harvest Song” and “Where is Bread”.   Afterwards we have a Soup and Sandwich Lunch in the Hall.   Thanks in advance to Stan and June Cook for the wonderful harvest display that will adorn the Church, and to Jane Aitken and her team for the wonderful lunch that will be served afterwards.   The service will be live streamed via our website and YouTube channel for those wishing to take part live or later on catch up. Monday 7th October our Church Guild resumes at 7.30pm with a communion service. All existing members look forward to meeting up, new members are welcome, and you don’t have to be a member (or a lady!) to come along to try us out.  Next time, Monday 14th, the Guild meets at 1.30pm with a Bring and Buy organised.
