Sunday worship takes place at Bellshill Central Parish Church at 346 Main Street, on Sunday 14th at 10.45am, when our Minister Rev’d Kevin de Beer will conduct worship and our Young Church and children’s activities will be available.  The theme of this week’s service is “Jesus’ mission statement”.  Our hymns include Stuart Townend’s “How Deep the Father’s love for us”, “When I survey the wondrous Cross” and “All heaven declares”.  The bible lessons come from Isaiah 61:1-9 and Luke 4:14-30.   Our choir lead us in a continuation of exploring the Psalms with Look forward in faith (with a reference to Psalm 31:15a) and an anthem based on the Lord’s Prayer by Martin Setchell.  Visitors are always welcome to come along.    We are a warm and welcoming church at the heart of our town — Central Church is Central to Bellshill, Central to Christ and Central to YOU!

This week is busy and with various events and meetings taking place to which all are welcome.

• Wednesday 10th May – Beetle Drive and Bingo Afternoon in the Church Hall with Sheena and Liz, with tickets available at £3.00 which includes your afternoon tea.   Please get your tickets asap as they usually go quite quick.  Always a good fun and friendly afternoon.
• Saturday 13^th May from 11am – 1pm in the Church Halls we are holding a “BIG BREAKFAST” in aid of Christian Aid.    Tickets/entry is £3 per person, you will have hot filled rolls and hot tea and coffee served.   It’s a great chance to bring the family for a late breakfast or early lunch, or simply come along and enjoy the chat and fellowship.  All monies raised go straight to Christian Aid.   Please do come along to support.
• Sunday 14^th May – all magazine items please be passed to Lawson Kyle for inclusion in the Summer Church Magazine.  Available to be distributed early June.  If you wish to receive a copy please get in touch.
• Tuesday 16th May – our Board and Session meetings take place from 7.30pm.   These are open meetings remember, and any member of the congregation is welcome to come along and see and hear the discussions your trustees have.

Next Sunday, 21^st May, our minister Rev’d Kevin de beer will be participating in the Church of Scotland’s General Assembly.   We are pleased to have leading worship, Mr Sam Clark.   Sam in a member and elder at Bellshill West Parish Church, and a well-kent face around Bellshill.

Some of our services are Live Streamed on some Sundays but all services are available on Catch up to view at your leisure on our church website and YouTube channel.

Many thanks to those who came along on Monday 1st May at 7.30pm to the Orbiston Neighbourhood Centre for Anne Guy’s Clothes Show.   Many thanks to Anne who organised the night and all that went on.  It was an excellent fundraising and social night for our Church Family.   Over £350 was raised for church funds.

Looking towards the Summer months we are proposing to pilot a weekly end of say service (Sundown Services) in our Church to which all are warmly welcomed to attend.  The services may take place mid-week on Wednesday’s around 7.30pm/8.00pm and last around 40minutes.  Being led by different people/ministers and leader’s means that these Sundown services will offer a theme, a song and a mood to suit everyone.  Tea/Coffee and refreshments would be served either before or after.  We think that this quieter time of the year calls for a way of coming together as a community to share stories, faith journeys and time of fellowship together.  If you would be keen to see this pilot take place please let us know.  Either through our facebook page or via the button on our website’s home page.

We are a Parish Church, and are here for you in times of joy and sadness.  Our minister, Rev Kevin de Beer, is available to the local community to offer spiritual support or to simply offer prayer.  Each week in our Sunday Service we offer prayers for those needing remembered.  If you would like to add names to our prayers, or require the services of your local Parish Church please get in touch – contact details are available on our website and our church notice board.

Our organisations give a warm invitation, and you are warmly welcomed to come and join in:

• The Church Choir normally meets on Friday evenings at 7.30pm, we next meet on Friday 12th May in the Church Hall.   New members are always welcome, and we invite anyone who like to sing to come along.   We’re a friendly bunch, who don’t bite, and encourage anyone to try out the choir.  The choir lunch takes place on Sunday 14^th May.

• Our Brownie Pack meets on Thursdays at 6.15pm, and all girls aged 7-10 years are welcome to come along. The Brownie Adventure is about trying new things that teach girls about themselves, their community and their world. The Brownie programme deserves to be called an Adventure. The name reflects the world of new opportunities, challenges and fun that girls become part of when they join.

• Our Rainbows meet on Tuesday nights at 7pm for all girls aged 5-7years. Rainbows – it’s all about learning, it’s all about developing self-confidence, building friendships, learning new things and having fun. Girls get their hands dirty with arts and crafts, getting in touch with nature and playing games – it’s all about learning by doing. Rainbows follow a diverse and engaging programme called the Rainbow Jigsaw, through which they can take part in lots of different activities with girls their own age.

• The Church Guides continue to meet on Thursday’s from 7.45pm for girls aged 10-14 years. The Guide programme is simply what you’ll do as a Guide – from taking part in lots of exciting activities at regular meetings, to special events and trips away. What you do is up to you. You will choose from different badges and awards which will help you learn new skills and try new challenges. You can do some programme independently, and others in small groups of Guides known as Patrols.

• Our Friday Night ALL-AGE Club has returned for 2017 on Friday nights at 7pm in the Church Hall, next meeting on Friday 19th May.  This bi-weekly club has activities for all ages, table tennis, crafts, games, and refreshments served. Adults, Children and Families come back time and time again.

• Friday 2nd June sees the Church Guilds annual outing – this year to Musselburgh.  Seats are still available on the bus should you wish to go along.   Estimated cost is around £25.00.   Please speak to Sheena Bowman if you want to reserve a place.

• Sunday 4^th June at 10.45am is our June Communion service.  Please note the date; as it is one week early so that we can celebrate Pentecost with Communion.   This particular Sunday we encourage folks to wear red.  This signifies a) the work of the Holy Spirit and b) to remind us of the fire of the Spirt.   In addition, the congregation with many dressed in RED is colorful. And perhaps most of all, it is fun.

• During June we will have our Young Church prizegiving service with participation from the young folks followed by their annual Young Church BBQ.   (please pray for good weather)

• We are also holding a Summer Big Sing in the Church featuring our fine Pipe Organ and lots of hymns and songs.  We will be raising funds for “Toilet Twinning” a charity that seeks to raise funds to enable people living in poor communities to have clean water, a basic toilet, and to learn about hygiene – a vital combination that helps end generational poverty.

 

Our hall and facilities are available at other times during the week and are available to be hired for one off occasions or longer term lets. Please get in touch with us if you need a space to hire. We have now installed Wi-Fi which means we can offer facilities for online events taking place in the church and halls.

We are pleased to have Mr Alan Spence visiting who will speak to us about the Barnabus Aid appeal. The theme of this weeks service is The persecuted church. Our hymns include Christ Triumphant every reigning, Father in heaven how we love you, The Churches one foundation, and Jesus calls us o’er the tumult. Our choir lead us in a continuation of exploring the Psalms with a setting of 23 by Stuart Townend and an anthem called “Take this moment”. This being the first Sunday of the Month there will be refreshments served afterwards in the Church hall after the service. Visitors are always welcome to come along. We are a warm and welcoming church at the heart of our town — Central Church is Central to Bellshill, Central to Christ and Central to YOU!

Many thanks to the Lanarkshire Society of Organists for holding their end of term AGM Recital in Bellshill Central. Graeme Stokes, Ronan McQuade and our own organist, Alan Mathew, played in this composite recital. The recital was LIVE STREAMED on our Church YouTube channel and is available for everyone now to view and take part. Each organist showed off the capabilities of our organ which undoubtedly is ranked among the finest in all of Lanarkshire.

Our Minister led the Community in prayer and reflection throughout the season of Lent, and these are available to read by looking for #prayerinlent on our Facebook page. This is was our second online initiative with our minister, and we hope that the daily updates reached out to many.

• The Bellshill Probus club and the Bellshill Central indoor bowling club have now finished for the summer months. Members of both these Wednesday groups had their last meetings on Wednesday 26th April. New members to both would be made most welcome in September. Thanks are due to the organisers of both clubs – you are much appreciated by all your members.
