As the Church of Scotland in Bellshill we extend a warm welcome to any of our activities. People have been coming to this building to worship God for over a hundred years. While our town has journeyed through many changes over those years, the constancy of the witness of the “Church at 346 Main Street” has remained uninterrupted. The mission of any Church is to reflect through its presence, its music, its fellowship and its beauty the greatness of God, and we seek to do that here in all that we share.
We hope that everyone who enters these doors will find an encouraging, friendly group of people. While we are far from perfect, we are regularly discovering truths that are changing us individually and enriching our lives as a church community. As we worship together, learn from the Bible, and pray for one another, we are strengthened in our commitment to Jesus Christ as well as to each other. If this is your first time here, we welcome you, and invite you to share the joy that we have found.
You don’t have to have faith or sign up to anything to come along. You can explore what Christians do and believe and take things at your own pace.
What we do on a Sunday
We begin at 11.00am. We sing hymns accompanied on our fine pipe organ or piano, by our church organist. You can listen or participate in prayers. A volunteer reads from the Bible and the minister gives a talk on it. We sometimes have dramas and other activities.
We try to make the first part of Morning Worship suitable for all ages. For the next part, if there are young children in church, they can join our Crèche and Young Church who leave after the offering. You can take them through and then come back into Church once they are settled. Or, if you prefer, they can remain with you in the Church. After Morning Worship on the 1st Sunday of the Month we serve refreshments in the hall. You are welcome to join us and get to know a few people.
Four times a year we join in Holy Communion (The Lord’s Supper/Eucharist)
This is on the 2nd Sunday of March, June, September and December, as well as Holy Week and Pentecost Sunday. Holy Week communion is often celebrated with a joint service with all Bellshill Church’s Together. The Minister is able to make Home Communion visits for those who are no longer able to come to church in person.
Other services and their dates are announced in church in advance, such as our Time to Remember Services, Christmas services, Big Sings or ecumenical events.
2019 at Bellshill Central has been a year of journeying together – all ages together – through the highs and lows. These images show our road taken, their essence remind us of where we have been. For what 2019 brought us – as family or individuals – we give thanks and look forward in Faith to 2020
Along the way we lost some much loved friends, family and precious ones. While we miss them terribly we remember them with the love they shared with us every day.
What’s the purpose of this year of pictures and memories? It’s to remind us that we are not just 4 walls, we are not just a building, we are a people. We are a busy and active congregation, and we are for all ages. We are inviting, welcoming and inclusive. Sunday worship continues at 11am each Sunday morning at 346 Main Street – Bellshill Central Parish Church. Our church is Central to Christ, Central to Bellshill and Central to YOU! For 143 years we have shouted out the Good News of Jesus Christ and of His love for one and all. We offer a warm and generous welcome to all, on Sundays or throughout the week at any of our week day activities and groups. Our minister, Rev’d Kevin de Beer, loves being in our Faith Family and reaching outwards into the communities of Bellshill Town Centre, Mossend and Orbiston. This Sunday morning, 5th January 2020, join us at 11.00am at the church at 346 Main Street right at the Centre of our town. This is the first Sunday of the new year and we literally give thanks for another new year and what it will bring. The theme is “God has invaded the world and caused a ‘new world’ to come into being”. The readings are Jeremiah 31:7-14, John 1:1-18. Our hymns include Hills of the North, Amazing Grace, Of the Father’s love begotten, Glory be to God the Father. This Sunday stay behind for tea and coffee in the hall after the service.
The service will be live streamed via our website and YouTube channel for those wishing to take part live or later on catch up. If you would like a tape, CD or DVD of the service these can be made available by speaking to Drew Aitken.
We need to thank everyone who contributed to the Christmas offerings for Chris’s House. We will be able to send over £800 to them for their vital work and help in our local community. Date for your diary
Sunday 26th January at 7pm is a Songs of Praise and Ecumenical Service in Bellshill Central Parish Church of Scotland for all the churches in Bellshill and Mossend. Marking the end of Week of Prayer of Christian Unity. The service is organised by the Lanarkshire Organists Society and members of all local churches will participate. Please come along. Offering for St. Andrew’s Hospice will be taken. Choir practice for this ecumenical event will be held on 17 & 24 January at 7.15pm.
Our church buildings are available to hire for the whole community. Whether you’re after a large hall, a small office or the church itself, we have spaces available to suit. Our Church Hall is equally suited to dance classes, coffee mornings or birthday parties. We have a spacious and functional kitchen with ample room to prepare food etc. We have a fully accessible disabled toilet with baby changing facilities. Our halls and church are fitted with WiFi. The church has large screens and sound system suitable for meetings and presentations. Our hall has portable audio visual equipment available upon request.
