LENT IS COMING!

Lent-2

Lent is coming.
In just weeks, we enter these Holy 40 Days of prayer, fasting and service.

In the early church, this time was used to prepare new converts for baptism. They would spend extra time studying the scriptures and asking questions and praying, so that they would be ready on Easter to make their confession, and to die and rise in the waters of Baptism.

Some churches still do this. It is a great vision for a church, to be the kind of people who live and teach about Jesus and his grace in such a way that others want to know him, that people who are not baptized want to take the plunge, and be one of his followers.

For others, Lent is an opportunity to grow deeper, to learn to trust God more, to lean on the promises. Some people give up something for Lent, and others take on a new discipline.

There will be a daily prayer uploaded to our Website – look for Lent 2019. We hope that you can take part.

We offer a pray for each of us — a fruitful and a gracious Lent, time for prayer, and a transformed heart.

The Rev Kevin de Beer

Our minister, Rev Kevin de Beer, has launched his own YouTube channel where his weekly “Word on Wednesday” short reflection videos are posted each Wednesday morning.

~ Exploring the Christian faith – knowing, living and sharing faith ~

Kevin believes that as the social media presence of the church grows it is a good platform to reach out to people. He said: “We are fortunate to have a team that worked hard on our Internet presence and I was asked to post 31 days of prayer last summer which was well received. “The gift of sharing prayers was repeated throughout Lent and this too was well received. “As the Facebook page of Bellshill Central has grown in its reach and influence, we have decided to launch ‘Word on Wednesdays’ – a three-minute biblical reflection, followed by a prayer.”

We have as a church also published ‘First Steps – Journeying in Faith, Hope and Love’ and has 50 copies to give to people in Bellshill who have questions concerning God and the Bible. The Rev de Beer said: “We believe that the church offers a community where people can gather to worship, to ask questions and give loving service.”

You are the God who made this world,
You are the truth that all may find,
You are the touch which heals our wounds,
The source of life for humankind.

You are the hope that we proclaim,
You are the path we choose to tread,
And if we hunger on the way,
You are the food by which we’re fed.

You are the love that knows no end,
You are the perfect sacrifice,
For broken lives weighed down by sin,
You are the One who paid the price.

You are the joy that fills our heart,
You are the comfort in our pain,
And as we lay all else aside.
For all we lose you are our gain.
